Original 1936 Art Deco 'Steck' piano , by
appointment to the Royal Family - Serial number 813312. This beautiful
high quality upright piano is of a rare Art Deco design and believed
to be the first of its design to come onto the market for some time,
possibly a one off. Its striking stepped sides, which give a very
Skyscraper look, combined with its stunning arced front gives it an
overall construction typical of the Art Deco period which makes
it collector's piece in it's own right. Finished in a rich golden
burl Walnut veneer which boasts a striking patina and wonderful heavy
figuring that is complimented by a 3½ inch band of Rosewood
running its length and sides of its base, with a second ½ inch
band inlaid into the outside Key lid. Its serial number is stamped
inside the top lid, as are the Royal Coat of Arms, the date of manufacture
and the Brass maker's mark. Slightly shorter in height than traditional
upright pianos.
It's in superb condition and has been professionally
maintained and tuned
with all its 50 ivory keys and 35 ebony keys unchipped and in perfect
working
order.
About the Maker.
George Steck pianos have been instruments
of distinction since their 1884
inauguration in New York City and such is their craftmanship
that the
company has been appointed makers of pianos for the Royal
Family.
From the earliest days of the company's
history, fame and awards have been
traditionally bestowed upon it. Honors such as the Gold Medal
at Vienna in
1873, the Piano Award at the Philadelphia Centennial in 1876
and the 1893
Chicago Exhibit Award began the heritage of excellence that
underpins
today's George Steck Company.
George Steck scales are noted for their
acoustic construction techniques
based on scientific principles of sound generation and maximization.
This
model is a perfect example of a what a George Steck owner
should expect of a
Steck piano; it being of the high level of quality and service
that the
founder instilled in the company and which constitutes the
operating
philosophy of the company today.
