This is a rare, and very collectable compact from the 1920s made by Galve ("gal-vay"). It's almost impossible to find compacts by this maker anymore and this one is sleek, chic and very Art Deco in design.There is some finish wear but no dents or dings. The lid has an unusual and lovely design with deeply etched "spray" shapes and in the center a tall dark shape containing the name GALVE in raised letters. The sides are smooth silver and the back has wide and narrow vertical bars and a blank cartouche in the center. The clasp works smoothly and closes tightly. Inside is a charming octagonal mirror with a lovely design and cartouche on the back. This flips up, revealing the very nice rouge compartment. The well is full of bright pink rouge. The surround is glowing silver and there's a silver tab to hold the puff in place. The puff is very fine, topped with pink satin, with a braided ribbon lifter in pink and black satin. Marked GALVE in the center in gold. The powder well still holds pale ivory powder and the puff is a larger twin to the rouge puff. Both are in excellent condition. The mirror is clear and bright and framed in smooth silver. It is unusual to find a scarce Deco compact like this in such good condition, with a good mirror and two excellent puffs.
